Chasing Wallows: Jen’s Story Through the Lens

Jen has been a dedicated Wallows fan and photographer, capturing the band’s journey both onstage and off. Her passion for their music and creativity shines through in her vibrant photos and unforgettable fan experiences. From memorable moments at their concerts to a unique connection with the band, Jen has had some incredible adventures along the way. In this interview, she shares what makes Wallows so special to her and the unforgettable memories she’s made as a fan.

If you could take one band member of Wallows on a photo adventure outside of a concert, where would you take them and why?

I love taking photos of Wallows both onstage and off, but it would be sick if they went to Hawaii again. The band’s name comes from a famous skate spot in Honolulu that was featured in Tony Hawk’s Underground. It is a difficult location to get to, as it’s essentially a ditch in a neighborhood, but it’s so special because it’s an important part of their lore. Taking photos of Wallows skateboarding at Wallows would be the ultimate full-circle moment.

What’s the most memorable fan experience you’ve had with Wallows, whether it was at a show, during the tour, or even online?

The most memorable experience I’ve had with Wallows was during their last US Tell Me That It’s Over show. After giving away setlists and guitar picks, they surprised the crowd by handing out the six floor lamps used for stage lighting. It was an incredibly chaotic moment, but so exciting because I ended up walking away with a lamp thanks to Danny. I have since had the opportunity to tell them how much it meant for me to have a piece of their TMTIO tour, and I even convinced all six of them to sign the lampshade. I will forever cherish and love lamp.

Do you have any funny or unexpected moments from the tour that you’d like to share?

When the Model tour was announced, I was most excited for their show at Red Rocks, a stunning natural amphitheater overlooking the city of Denver. What made it even more special was the last-minute announcement that Double Play, Dylan and Braeden’s dads, would be opening for the show. Their dads introduced them to music, taught them how to play guitar, and had a huge influence on their careers. Watching the two father-son duos share the stage for ‘Purple Haze’ was a unique and unforgettable moment. The show exceeded my expectations and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, especially since my friends and I got an unexpected ticket upgrade to the second row.

What’s one thing that makes Wallows unique in your eyes?

What makes Wallows unique is their ability to make any venue feel intimate and special for their fans. They go out of their way to connect with everyone, whether it’s walking through the crowd or performing an acoustic set on a B stage. This gives fans in the back of the pit or up in the balconies a chance to experience the band up close. I also love watching them have fun on stage and truly enjoy each moment. Having been making music together for almost fifteen years, their childhood bond shines through in every performance. It makes me so proud to see them continue to grow and seize incredible opportunities, like opening for My Chemical Romance next year.

How did you first discover Wallows, and what drew you to their music?

I first discovered Wallows in the summer of 2020 when ‘Are You Bored Yet?’ was trending on TikTok. I had known Dylan as an actor for years, but I’d never heard of Wallows until their songs completely took over my FYP. Once I decided to do some further research on YouTube, I was instantly captivated by their creativity, especially their fun, vibrant music videos. I loved listening to their no-skip albums filled with catchy, upbeat songs, and their raw, relatable lyrics kept me coming back for more. It was a quick process, but I knew I had found my new favorite band and I’ve never looked back.
